The Standard Story
Our Mission
To provide our customers with the highest level of service, at the lowest price, as fast and efficiently as possible, and commit to their total satisfaction.
Standard TV & Appliance was founded by Clement and Hazel Gander in
1947 as Standard Refrigeration. The well-known storefront on SE
Woodstock was opened in 1952 with the Gander family living in a small
house attached. Since then, the company has grown to over 275 employees with 4 locations (Portland, Tigard, Beaverton and Bend).
Other Milestones in Our History
1972
Bill Gander, Clement and Hazel's son, assumes management with six employees.
1981
Clement retires - Bill Gander buys the remaining company stock. Standard grows to twelve employees.
1997
Standard outgrows the Woodstock store and relocates to its current SE
82nd Avenue location - one of the biggest appliance showrooms in the
Nation.
1998
Sales operations expand to Tigard and Beaverton stores (previously operated as Doughty's Appliance).
2001
Standard acquires George Smith Appliance.
2002
Warehouse and Delivery operations move to a new 72,000 sq. ft. site near the main store on SE 82nd.
2003
Standard opens a new 17,000 sq. ft. store in Bend - the largest appliance showroom in Central Oregon.
2006
Standard store opens on Hall Blvd. in Beaverton, with one of the
largest displays of live appliances in the Western US showcasing 17
live kitchens - all designed by local designers and cabinet builders.
Throughout our history, Standard has aimed to bring the best and most
innovative products to its customers at the lowest price. Standard is
Oregon's largest independent appliance dealer and has been committed to our
customers' total satisfaction for 60 years.
