Wine Storage

For both the occasional wine drinker and the experienced wine connoisseur, proper wine storage will make a big difference. Even if you don't have a full wine cellar, and maybe only enjoy a glass or two every so often, get the most out of your wine with proper storage. How your wine is stored will directly affect the final flavor, color and character of each bottle of wine you purchase.

Obviously, many bottles of wine you purchase will be consumed immediately or soon after. However, even those kept for a few weeks or months can be positively or negatively impacted by the type of home wine storage you have. For most wine lovers, having the right kind of wine storage unit is imperative.

Temperature is by far the most important factor in storing wine. The storage temperature of the wine has the largest impact on its flavor, quality, and how long you can store it. It is imperative that you keep your wine at a consistent temperature. Counter top wine racks are not effective in properly storing wine. Wine storage temperature should be between 40 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Storing wine at too low of a temperature will cause wine not to develop properly; if the temperature is too high wine will age too quickly. Therefore, the optimal range for proper wine storage is between 50 and 55 degrees for best development.  If you do not have a wine cellar a wine storage chamber or cooler is the best way to store your wine.

Another important factor in wine storage is that the wine bottle is stored horizontally or at a 45% angle, cork facing down. By storing the wine in such a manner, the wine keeps in constant contact with the cork, keeping it expanded well enough to block out any possible air coming into the bottle. For the best taste possible, be sure to follow this important rule.

Lighting and humidity are also factors to be taken into consideration in proper wine storage. UV rays cause tannins in the wine to oxidize and ruin the flavor, aroma, and structure of the wine. The only reason why humidity is an issue in wine storage is because of the use of the traditional cork seal. Low humidity can cause the cork to dry faster, however if stored at the proper angle humidity is not the most important factor.

All models of wine coolers carried at Standard TV and Appliance offer adjustable temperature controls, and storage racks, and also interior lighting. Some of the models include humidity controls and even multiple storage compartments. You are sure to find a model to fit your wine storage needs in Standard TV and Appliances large selection of wine coolers.
